Elevation of blood histamine and C-RP durings short-term lead exposure in Clarias batrachus (Linn.)

In attempts to find relationship between a heavy metal lead (Pb) induced inflammation, the tissue factors as histamine and C-reactive protein levels were estimated from the blood of a fish Clarias batrachus, linn.

Adultfishes (120-200 gms wt) keptin aquaria water containing 25 ppm, 50 ppm, 75 ppm, 100 ppm and 125 ppm of lead acetate for 48 hrs. showed significantly elevated concentrations of blood histamine (from 12.0724-1973 to 299+ 2917 n mol/lit and CRP (from 2076+ 16.627 to 2993+ 313.122 IU). The correlation coefficient (r) between histamine and CRP lies within 0429 to 0.955 with calculated t-value 1.343 to 28.13. _•
